Other property that you own yourself is not included in the division of property. This could be a car or a holiday home, for example.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>When a cohabitation relationship ends, the cohabitation property is generally divided between the parties if one of them so requests. The division of property between cohabitants can be requested within one year of the end of the relationship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>You can decide how your property will be divided if your cohabitation ends. This is done by means of a cohabitation agreement in which it can be agreed whether the rules of the Cohabitation Act on division of property apply.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"et_d4_element et_pb_column_1_2 et_pb_column et_pb_column_7  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode et-last-child et_block_column\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_module et_d4_element et_pb_text et_pb_text_7  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Do cohabitants inherit from each other?<\/h2><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"et_pb_module et_d4_element et_pb_divider et_pb_divider_2 et_pb_space\"><div class=\"et_pb_divider_internal\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_module et_d4_element et_pb_text et_pb_text_8  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><p><span>It is important to note that cohabitants do not inherit from each other by law. In the event of one partner\u2019s death, their assets will go first to the deceased's direct heirs and then to the other legal heirs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This can often cause problems for the surviving partner if the partners owned the joint property together.
